We work together to bring the teachings of the Bahá'í Faith— love, unity, equality, kindness, service— into our daily lives, our families and our community.
Wherever you are on your spiritual path, we invite you to connect and explore the Bahá'í teachings with us.

What Do Baháʼís Believe?
➡️ Independent Investigation of Truth
This Bahá'i principle directs us to investigate and determine for ourselves what is true, and not just believe something because others believe it.
"No man should follow blindly his ancestors and forefathers, nay each must see with his own eyes, hear with his own ears, and investigate Truth in order that he may find Truth." -Bahá’u’lláh
This doesn't mean we should ignore or reject all advice or traditions—but that we use our God-given intellect to question and understand things for ourselves.
"God has created in man the power of reason whereby man is enabled to investigate reality. He must not rely implicitly upon the opinion of any man without investigation; nay, each soul must seek intelligently and independently, arriving at a real conclusion." -Abdu'l-Bahá
➡️ We Are One Human Family
Bahá'ís believe we all belong to one human family, no matter where we live or what religion we follow.
Bahá'u'lláh explained this idea powerfully:
"Ye are all leaves of one tree and the fruits of one branch."
He also said,
"The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens."
Understanding that we're one family means we must treat each other with love, respect and kindness.
"So intense must be the spirit of love and loving kindness, that the stranger may find himself a friend, the enemy a true brother, no difference whatsoever existing between them.” -'Abdu'l-Bahá
➡️ Religions Are God's Message to Mankind
The Bahá'í Faith teaches that God has sent divine guidance to humanity every 500 to 1,000 years through His Divine Manifestations.
This idea is called "progressive revelation," which means God's divine guidance keeps evolving as humanity develops and matures.
Rather than believing that one religion has the truth and all others are wrong, Bahá'ís believe all major religions are God's guidance for different times and places. Bahá'u'lláh explained:
"Every Divine Revelation hath been sent down in a manner that befitted the circumstances of the age in which it hath appeared."
This means God sends His Divine Manifestation with the right message at the right time.
"Whenever this robe hath fulfilled its purpose, the Almighty will assuredly renew it. For every age requireth a fresh measure of the light of God." -Bahá'u'lláh
Each Divine Manifestation— Buddha, Krishna, Moses, Jesus, Muhammed, and others—brought important teachings for the people of their time.
This doesn't mean all religions will be exactly the same, but they share the same core purpose of helping human beings more perfectly reflect the virtues of God.
"The foundations of all the divine religions are peace and agreement, but misunderstandings and ignorance have developed. If these are caused to disappear you will see that all the religious agencies will work for peace and promulgate the oneness of humankind." -'Abdu'l-Bahá
➡️ Predjudices of All Kinds Must Be Abolished
The Bahá'í Faith teaches that prejudice is one of the biggest problems facing humanity. 'Abdu'l-Bahá was very clear about this:
"Prejudices of religion, race or sect destroy the foundation of humanity. All the divisions in the world, hatred, war and bloodshed, are caused by one or other of these prejudices."
Bahá'u'lláh similarly taught that people must
"close your eyes to racial differences, and welcome all with the light of oneness."
This doesn't mean we pretend differences don't exist—it means acknowledging and appreciating everyone in the human family with equal respect and dignity.
'Abdu'l-Bahá explained that the root of prejudice comes from blindly copying what people believed in the past without thinking about it yourself. He said:
"The root cause of prejudice is blind imitation of the past—imitation in religion, in racial attitudes, in national bias, in politics. So long as this aping of the past persisteth, just so long will the foundations of the social order be blown to the four winds."
This connects back to the principle of independent investigation of truth—when people actually think for themselves, instead of just repeating old ideas, prejudices will disappear.
➡️ Men and Women are Equal
The Bahá'í Faith teaches that men and women are equal in the sight of God and have the same rights and opportunities. This is a core principle of the faith.
Bahá'u'lláh taught:
"Know ye not why We created you all from the same dust? That no one should exalt himself over the other."
He also said that God
"hath lifted distinctions from between His servants and hand maidens and...hath conferred upon all a station and rank on the same plane."
This means God created both men and women equally and doesn't favor one over the other.
"The world of humanity has two wings—one is women and the other men. Not until both wings are equally developed can the bird fly. Should one wing remain weak, flight is impossible." -'Abdu'l-Bahá
Just like a bird needs both wings to fly, society needs both men and women working at full strength to progress and succeed.
"When all mankind shall receive the same opportunity of education and the equality of men and women be realized, the foundations of war will be utterly destroyed." -'Abdu'l-Bahá
'Abdu'l-Bahá also stressed that a person's worth comes from their character and actions, not their gender:
"The one whose heart is purest, whose life and character are highest and nearest to the divine standard is most worthy and excellent in the sight of God. This is the only true and real distinction, be that one man or woman."
This means that in the Bahá'í view, women and men should have equal access to education, work, and leadership roles.
➡️ Consultation Instead of Debate in Decision-Making
Baháʼí consultation is a unique and powerful method of decision-making where everyone's opinion matters and the goal is finding truth together, not winning an argument.
Bahá'u'lláh taught:
"Take ye counsel together in all matters, inasmuch as consultation is the lamp of guidance which leadeth the way, and is the bestower of understanding."
He also said:
"No welfare and no well-being can be attained except through consultation. Consultation bestoweth greater awareness and transmuteth conjecture into certitude."
'Abdu'l-Bahá explained how consultation should work:
"He who expresses an opinion should not voice it as correct and right but set it forth as a contribution to the consensus of opinion, for the light of reality becomes apparent when two opinions coincide. A spark is produced when flint and steel come together."
Consultation is about humble listening, speaking ideas with openness and candor, and working together to discover the optimum solutions.
➡️ Science and Religion are Intertwined
The Bahá'í Faith teaches that science and religion are not enemies—they work together to help people understand the world and live better lives. 'Abdu'l-Bahá explained this beautifully:
"Religion and science are the two wings upon which man's intelligence can soar into the heights, with which the human soul can progress. It is not possible to fly with one wing alone!"
Just like a bird needs both wings to fly, people need both science and religion to truly understand reality and reach their full potential. Bahá'u'lláh stated simply:
"If religion were contrary to logical reason then it would cease to be a religion and be merely a tradition."
What happens when people separate science from religion? 'Abdu'l-Bahá warned about both dangers:
"Should a man try to fly with the wing of religion alone he would quickly fall into the quagmire of superstition, whilst on the other hand, with the wing of science alone he would also make no progress, but fall into the despairing slough of materialism."
Religion without science can become superstition—people believing things that aren't true. Science without religion can become materialism—focusing only on money and physical things and ignoring the spiritual side of life.
The Bahá'í view is that discovering scientific truth is actually a form of worship—learning about how the world works draws us closer to the Creator
"If religion were in harmony with science and they walked together, much of the hatred and bitterness now bringing misery to the human race would be at an end." -'Abdu'l-Bahá
➡️ There Should Not Be Extremes of Wealth & Poverty
Creating a fair economic system where everyone has access to the basic things they need—food, shelter, education, healthcare—is seen as essential to building a peaceful, united world.
Bahá'u'lláh spoke directly to wealthy people about their responsibility:
"O YE RICH ONES ON EARTH! The poor in your midst are My trust; guard ye My trust, and be not intent only on your own ease."
He also said:
"They who are possessed of riches, however, must have the utmost regard for the poor, for great is the honor destined by God for those poor who are steadfast in patience."
Bahá'u'lláh taught that a truly just society needs to prevent extreme wealth gaps from happening in the first place. He stated:
"The greatest means for prevention is that whereby the laws of the community will be so framed and enacted that it will not be possible for a few to be millionaires and many destitute."
In other words, governments should make laws that prevent extreme poverty and extreme wealth from developing.
This Bahá'í principle also emphasizes that a person's true worth comes from their character and service to others, not from how much money they have. Bahá'u'lláh said:
"Man's merit lieth in service and virtue, and not in the pageantry of wealth and riches."
➡️ Education Should Be Universal and Compulsary
The Bahá'í Faith teaches that every child, no matter their background or economic situation, should receive a quality education. This isn't optional—it's required. Bahá'u'lláh explained why education is so important:
"Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom."
In other words, every human being has incredible potential and abilities inside them, like valuable gems in a mine. Education is the only way to unlock that potential. Bahá'u'lláh also taught that
"every child must be instructed in sciences as much as is necessary. If the parents are able to provide the expenses of this education, it is well, otherwise the community must provide the means for the teaching of that child."
This means that if families can't afford school, the whole community should help pay for it.
'Abdu'l-Bahá stressed how critical education is to society's future:
"Every child is potentially the light of the world—and at the same time its darkness; wherefore must the question of education be accounted as of primary importance."
This powerful statement means that children can grow up to become wonderful, helpful people or to cause harm—and education determines which direction they go. He also emphasized that teaching children is the most important work people can do:
"The education and training of children is among the most meritorious acts of humankind and draweth down the grace and favour of the All-Merciful, for education is the indispensable foundation of all human excellence."
Education in the Bahá'í view isn't just about learning math and science. It should also teach moral and spiritual values that help young people become good citizens who contribute to society. 'Abdu'l-Bahá taught:
"Children are even as a branch that is fresh and green; they will grow up in whatever way ye train them. Take the utmost care to give them high ideals and goals."
When all children receive quality education with both academic and moral instruction, society becomes stronger and more peaceful.
➡️ We Should Establish an Auxilary Language
The Bahá'í Faith teaches that one major barrier to world peace is that people speak so many different languages. When people can't understand each other, it causes misunderstandings and conflict. Bahá'u'lláh explained:
"it is incumbent upon all nations to appoint some men of understanding and erudition to convene a gathering and through joint consultation choose one language"
that everyone could learn as a second language to communicate across borders. Bahá'u'lláh promised that
"When this is achieved, to whatsoever city a man may journey, it shall be as if he were entering his own home."
'Abdu'l-Bahá emphasized why this is so important: "Today the greatest need of the world of humanity is discontinuance of the existing misunderstandings among nations. This can be accomplished through the unity of language.
"Each person will require training in two languages: his native tongue and the universal auxiliary form of speech. This will facilitate intercommunication and dispel the misunderstandings which the barriers of language have occasioned in the world."
The Ladder of Music
"We have made music a ladder by which souls may ascend to the realm on high." -Bahá'u'lláh
"The further away the friends keep from any set forms, the better, for they must realize that the Cause is absolutely universal, and what might seem a beautiful addition to their mode of celebrating...would perhaps fall on the ears of people of another country as unpleasant sounds...they should not consider it Bahá’í music." - Shoghi Effendi
In the Bahá’í Faith individual believers are free to worship respectfully with music—and there is no style or form of music considered superior to another. Bahá’ís from around the world compose and share music in their own diverse styles—featuring Bahá’í scripture, principles and themes.
Below are some songs with lyrics that quote Bahá’í prayers and scripture. These songs were all created by individual Bahá’ís and shared on YouTube:
